Watcher Blossom

My current body of work focuses on the intense topic of man's impact on nature. Using elements of hyper-realism and fantasy, I create works featuring the ways in which humanity encounters the natural world. This new series features what I call "watcher blossoms" - hot sculpted glass blooms with a human-like eye at the center. These "watcher blossoms" are representative of nature as a witness to our choices and actions.

I work predominantly in hot-glass utilizing both glassblowing and hot-sculpting techniques. Occasionally, I integrate other materials and disciplines into my work. The bloom of this particular sculpture was created from hot-sculpted glass. The vase was made from blown glass. And the stem was created from cast resin of a mold I sculpted free-hand.
